Brentford boss Thomas Frank has declared that he expects Newcastle United to target the top six in the future. Newcastle have lost just one of their opening eight games, and defeated Fulham 4-1 in their last outing to end a six-match winless run and climb into seventh place. Frank’s side travel to St James’ Park to face Newcastle on Saturday, with the Bees sitting 10th place in the Premier League. Eddie Howe made his Newcastle debut in a 3-3 draw against Brentford (albeit from his hotel after contracting Covid) last November and Frank has praised the progress that Newcastle have made since his arrival.

Thomas Frank said: “There is no doubt that Newcastle are aiming to be a top six side in the future. Eddie Howe, his staff, and players have done a very good job so far. Last year, they stabilised the club and this year they have only lost to Liverpool. He had made them much more front-footed and aggressive.”

Newcastle have transformed St James’ Park into a fortress since the turn of the year – losing just one of their last 14 home games in the Premier League. Brentford have failed to win any of their last six league games against Newcastle and Frank has warned that St James’ Park is one of the most difficult grounds to visit.

Thomas Frank said: “They look very strong, dynamic, physical, and aggressive. St James’ Park is one of the most difficult grounds to go to but we are up for the challenge. We will go out there with the best intentions of getting three points”
