The dates of Leicester City’s rescheduled fixtures are “ludicrous” and will be a big disruption on Brendan Rodgers’ plans for the team. Speaking last week, before either of the rearranged games had been finalised, Rodgers appealed to the Premier League to wait until later in the campaign to reschedule the fixtures.

Brendan Rodgers said: “There’s been talk of our games being rearranged for January, which I find ludicrous really, when you consider the period we’ve come off in terms of November and December, and there are dates fixed later on in the calendar for when games can be played. I’m only hoping the Premier League aren’t going to look to then force players to play even more games in this month, especially when you have the Africa Cup of Nations as well, where we lose players.”

It was a period that Rodgers was looking forward to, but also one he felt the team needed, particularly because they are having to build new partnerships and combinations given the latest injury crisis at the club.

Brendan Rodgers said: “Over the past two to three months, there haven’t been many training days because of European football and cup competitions. January will be a great month for a multitude of reasons, the recovery of players, first and foremost, after everything they’ve been through. And also the opportunity to work on the training field, which is always a top priority for myself and my staff. It allows us to look at areas that we need reinforcing and development, especially if we have to be creative with the team and be creative with solutions.”

How busy City have been over the past season and a half is seen clearly when the number of fixtures is compared to their first two campaigns back in the top flight.
