Brendan Rodgers believes he has demonstrated his loyalty to Leicester City after passing up two opportunities to leave the club. Asked if he had received any words of reassurance on his position following Monday’s win,

Brendan Rodgers said: “I don’t need it. I really don’t. I spoke to Top before the game but he has been over for other games when we have been losing. He and his family and the other staff here have always been super supportive of me. They understand the challenges we’ve had over the summer. They understand the difficulties and where I’m coming from. But they know they have total respect from me so I don’t need Top or anyone to sit me down. They trust I can do the job. They know my loyalty to here because I stayed when maybe I could have left. But that doesn’t mean they owe me anything. I want to do it for the club, the fans, the supporters and they trust me to do that. And if I don’t, they’ll tell me.”

Asked to elaborate on when he could have left, Rodgers said “that’s a different story” but did add that there were two occasions when it was possible. That is all in the past as far as he is concerned, with his focus on steering City up the table. Victory at Bournemouth on Saturday is the next aim.

Brendan Rodgers said: “The mood change has been really good from the players’ perspective. From me on a personal level it always makes the day off a little better but there is still a lot of work to do. But I also know there is a lot of time for us to grow and develop and hopefully by the end of the season the bad run will have been another learning experience. I said before Monday night’s game, we’d had a tough run of fixtures, but this run before the World Cup gives us a chance to accumulate points and very quickly we could find ourselves in the middle of the table. We’ve put a plan together. We need to take the energy into our next game.”
