Leicester City boss Brendan Rodgers had a different view to Unai Emery about his side’s 4-2 win over Aston Villa. It was a strange afternoon at B6 as Unai Emery ’s side created enough chances to salvage at least a draw, despite failing to get out of their own way, defensively. However, after picking up a point in their previous five league games, Rodgers was quick to laud his players for their win on the road.
Brendan Rodgers said: “It was a top performance. Everyone was clear on Aston Villa’s form and how they’ve been since Unai came in. I thought the players were brilliant today. Really creative. It felt like a team of mine, being more offensive and aggressive. We were unfortunate for the first couple of goals. The first one, Youri was down, the shot comes in from the edge of the box where he would have been. The second one being a deflection. There were areas where we could be better in those but overall I thought we defended with a calmness and managed the game really well. Offensively, we were excellent, we looked a real threat, and looked dangerous. Our four goals were outstanding, so it was very pleasing.”
While Leicester celebrated the three points, Emery admitted he was left “frustrated and disappointed” by his team’s display. Villa had won their previous two games but slipped to their third home defeat in six under the Spaniard, an issue he is keen to fix.
Brendan Rodgers said: “The next step is to play better at home and to try and control tactical circumstances. We didn’t do that today. We created chances as well but we conceded more than we had to do. In some moments we were playing very well and we made some big mistakes and conceded chances to score. We lost a little bit of our confidence and we have to rebuild that again in the training sessions and in the next matches.”
