Tottenham may just be hiring one of Jose Mourinho’s most bitter rivals to be his successor.

Jose Mourinho said: “I think Antonio, I think Antonio. I think it was publicly. He is very positive that Eriksen is coming to Inter. We shouldn’t speak about players from other clubs until they become our players. You ask me about Gedson [Fernandes, Spurs’ new signing from Benfica] since the moment Gedson’s name was on the screen and I told you nothing [until he signed]. You protect everybody. Is it a question of respect? I don’t want to give you a headline. That’s up to you. If Inter are confident, they are confident because they are ready to make us an offer, which didn’t happen yet. So when I see people speaking, especially people with responsibilities, I am a little bit surprised.”

Though, that was not the only fallout between the pair with Conte once going to town on Mourinho amid criticism during his time at Chelsea.

Antonio Conte said: “You show you are a little man. He was a little man in the past, he is a little man in the present and he will be in the future. He is not my problem, I consider him a very little man with very low profile. I remember for example with Ranieri. He offended Ranieri for his English, then when Ranieri was sacked he put a shirt with his name on. This shows you are a fake.”

Spurs are understood to be in talks with former Inter Milan and Chelsea boss Antonio Conte over taking over the head coach role from Mourinho, who was sacked in April ahead of the Carabao Cup final. And there is no doubt Mourinho would not give his approval if he was to be given the choice having had plenty to say over Conte in the past. If Conte does take over at Spurs, the pair will have three clubs in common across Chelsea, Inter and Tottenham, but it seems that is where the commonalities end.
