Allan Saint-Maximin has reiterated that he ‘really loves’ Newcastle because Geordies have helped him to feel at home on Tyneside. The Frenchman has struck up a special bond with the club’s supporters ever since he joined the Magpies from Nice nearly two years ago. Although Saint-Maximin has warned that he does ‘not want to do another season where we fight relegation’, one of the reasons why the mercurial forward signed a new six-year contract last October was because of the ‘love’ he received from the supporters.
Allan Saint Maximin said: “It’s a little bit cold here to be honest but the people are not cold so that’s why it’s good. “The people are really hot so this is good. So many things changed because I’m from France so it’s really different but, here, it feels like home because everyone has supported me a lot. The fans try to do their best so I feel good there and the club and my partner are the same. It’s really important to have this. It’s better to have the people with you than against you. This is normal. That’s why I really love Newcastle.”
Saint-Maximin has actually played more games for Newcastle behind closed doors than he has in front of the club’s supporters because of the pandemic.
Allan Saint-Maxim said: “I’m not the same player when the fans are not there and I think it’s the same for every player. I think it’s the same for you. If you play somewhere with nobody, you cannot be the same if 10,000 cry your name. For me, it’s the same. Everyone does music for me, they cry my name, they support me a lot in the game so, for sure, you get more motivation and you try to do your best to help your team so this is really important for me.”
