Manchester City started the month on the back of a 6-0 drubbing by rivals Liverpool. Many sections of the media alleged that Ball had got the job in July 1995 because of his friendship with club chairman. But he only conceded one goal in the whole month and picked up 10 points to become the first Manchester City manager to win this award.
