Rangers boss Gerry Francis indicated that he wanted to see out his contract at QPR but mildly suggested that he would leave the club if his star player Les Ferdinand was sold. There had been many rumours of Ferdinand being lined up for a big move from bigger clubs and considering Rangers’ financial position it wasn’t beyond the realms of possibilities.

Gerry Francis said “I don’t break the contract. I never do that. I believe in honouring contracts and I have one more year left at Rangers. Though I have been known to resign over principle. Its been a hard process to improve the team in the last two years. Before I arrived they were struggling at the bottom and I knew I had to save money as well. I have only spent £160000 but we have hardly been outside the top six all season.”
