Arsenal 1 Tottenham Hotspur 3 – Distracted Gunners Overtaken by North London Rivals

As Arsenal was preparing for the FA cup final against Sheffield Wednesday in a few days time, manager George Graham put out a second-string team on the park against their North London neighbours and eventually ran out 3-1 winners.

The result allowed Spurs to overtake Arsenal in the table and denied a chance for their rivals to celebrate the Saint Totteringham’s day. Sheringham scored one and Hendry scored twice to put Spurs three up before Dickov pulled one back for Arsenal. This was also the last league game for Dave O’Leary who retired after making his 720th appearance for Arsenal.

Dave O’Leary said “I’m glad its all over. It’s fitting that my last game tonight should be against our biggest rivals down the years. And it would be brilliant to pick up FA cup on the way. That would bring the three biggest trophies of the season together at Highbury at the same time.”
