Less than a week after being acclaimed the nation’s best footballer, Paul Mcgrath did his best to ensure that his Villa colleagues would also be on the receiving end of a presentation. In an otherwise dull affair, Mcgrath leapt high to a Steve Staunton corner in the 64th minute to give the crucial goal to a villa that took them clear on the top of the table.

Paul Mcgrath said “I’ll be getting big-headed if this carries on. I’d like things to go quieten down now. Even though they are down (Nottingham Forest), they still played some great football and they gave us a few scares.”
