Arsenal legend David O’Leary who was set to leave Highbury after over two decades at the club at the end of that season thought that it was a Manchester United title to throw away from that point onwards.

David O’Leary said “It now looks as if Manchester United can only throw away the league. As long as it was not Arsenal, I would be delighted to see United take the title. While sorry for Steve, Paul and Ray at Villa. I have always had a soft spot for United. Having supported them as a kid in Dublin and am honoured indeed hat they agreed to come to Highbury to play in my testimonial.”
