Kevin Keegan slammed the door in the face Tommy Wright’s admirers and declared “He’s staying here” to end all the speculation that the keeper would leave the club. A one-match suspension for the first choice keeper Srnicek had opened the door for Wright and Keegan insisted that it was up to Wright to nail down the spot for himself.

Kevin Keegan said “Tommy is staying here. Tommy has been to see me about it because it unsettled him. I’ve put his mind to rest. To be fair to him, he has never been out of the side because he hasn’t played well. He has been out of the side twice through injury. He knows as well as Pav knows. That I stick to keepers who are in the team if they play well. I’ve never dropped a keeper since I’ve been here. It’s up to Tommy.”
