Norwich manager Mike Walker had condemned the fixture mess that made his stumbling title contenders kick their heels for 10 days prior to trying to repair their 3-0 loss to Southampton. Norwich’s previous weekend match against Arsenal was postponed because the Gunners had a coca-cola tie to play. And their next league match against Nottingham Forest had also been postponed Forest were involved in the FA cup. This meant Norwich would have played only one match in three weeks.

Mike Walker said “We will effectively have had just one game in three weeks. We are going to be given or six points behind the leaders with two games in hand. But I’d rather have the points.”
