Dean Saunders was determined to take revenge against his old side Liverpool and end his lean patch with Villa by scoring at Anfield. Aston Villa could go top of the table if they beat Liverpool and other results went their way.

Dean Saunders said “The game is like a cup final for myself, Ray Houghton and Steve Staunton. Ray and I hit 35 goals between us last year for Liverpool, and if we could all score against our old club, we would be ridiculously happy. But its not just about the three of us – winning is the important thing.”
