New Everton coach Carlo Ancelotti has called for “calm” around Moise Kean because the new manager insists expectations are sky-high. Ancelotti is urging fans – and the 19-year-old striker – to be patient over his situation as he adapts to a new league and country. Kean has had trouble since moving from Juventus last summer and suffered the ignominy of being substituted by caretaker boss Duncan Ferguson after coming on as a substitute against Manchester United.

But Ancelotti is excited to work with the Italian youngster after attempting to sign him before during his time at Napoli. Moise Kean has made only two league starts this season after sealing a £25m summer move from Juventus but Ancelotti, who helped launch the careers of players such as Hernan Crespo at Parma in the mid-1990s, has told the forward that it “takes time”.

Carlo Ancelotti said “I met him after the game, to say hello, but after that I haven’t spoken to him but I am going to. The expectation on him is really high but he is 19-years-old, we have to be a little bit calm and patient with him. He has the quality to become a Premier League striker but, like I said, it takes time because he is 19-years-old, he is in a new country, with new team-mates and a new manager so we have to stay on him, work with him, try to improve him and also he has to be patient. It doesn’t matter if you play or don’t play, try to use this period to improve yourself every single day.”

The new Everton boss tried to sign the teenage striker last season for Napoli and sees huge potential in the Italian forward.
