Arsenal was facing a season-defining 10 day period where the fate of two domestic cups and their title challenge could be decided. Their Coca Cola cup tie at Scarborough fell victim to a frost-bound pitch. The out of form Londoners were required to travel to Mccain Stadium on January 6, straight after testing FA cup third-round clash against Yeovil. They also had a boxing day home game against Ipswich and Bank holiday Monday trip to second-place Aston Villa.
