Manchester City player-manager Peter Reid was considering a shake-up for the Maine road clash with title-chasing Aston Villa. City had crashed to three successive defeats and Reid needed to review the claims of striker Mike Sheron and midfielder Fitzroy Simpson. Nial Quinn, David White and Andy Hill had all recovered from minor injuries, leaving Reid with a full-strength squad.
