The vision Eric Cantona had brought to Manchester United would not tempt Alex Ferguson to look towards the title they threw away six months earlier. The bitter memory of Leeds United’s late snatch of the prize that United themselves were coveting for over two and a half decades had burned deep in the Old Trafford psyche. But Ferguson remained skeptical of his team’s title chances and said “We are never going to predict anything at this club, especially after the experience of last season. But we’re good enough.”
