Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder Jayson Molumby has signed a new three-and-a-half-year contract, keeping him at Albion until June 2023. The Republic of Ireland under-21 captain joined the club in 2016 and made his first-team debut in a League Cup tie against Barnet in 2017. He played in the next round against Bournemouth and was a regular in the under-23s.
Club Technical Director Dan Ashworth said: “The experiences Jayson has had in the tough environment of the Championship this season have really helped his overall game and we’re delighted that he is committing himself to the club so he can continue his development when he comes back to us at the end of the season. We have watched him regularly this season and I know how pleased everyone at Millwall has been with his performances and his attitude. The new contract is a reward for his professionalism and hard work and I’m sure he will be looking to make a big impact when he comes back to the club.”
The 20-year-old joined Championship side Millwall at the start of this season and has played 32 games for the Lions in league and cup.
Brighton and Hove Albion have been shortlisted for a Green Heart Hero Award – these celebrate organisations across the UK who are making an effort to be more sustainable and reduce their carbon emissions. The awards are run by The Climate Coalition, which is a group of more than 140 organisations who are dedicated to action against climate change, including the National Trust, the Women’s Institute, Oxfam and the RSPB. The Albion are up against Arsenal FC and Lords Cricket Ground in the Sustainability In Sport category.
Club Chief executive Paul Barber said: “We are delighted to see our efforts being recognised in this area and we are working hard to minimise our impact on the environment. We have a genuine commitment to environmental sustainability. We recently published our first environmental policy and we are taking proactive steps to minimise energy use and reinforce our commitment to carbon offset. Everyone will continue to work closely with our various partners and stakeholders to ensure we are as environmentally sustainable as possible. We are conscious of the issues surrounding climate change. As a club, we can make a difference now and in the future and we are totally committed to doing so.”
Winners will be chosen by a group of independent judges and announced at a ceremony at the Houses of Parliament on Monday, to be hosted by Sky News presenter Kay Burley.
Graham Potter dealt with a very controversial and awkward question from a journalist in a smooth manner after the Potters’ goalless draw against Wolves. After the 0-0 draw at fifth-placed Wolves, it prompted one journalist at Molineux Stadium to ask Potter: are you Chris Hughton in disguise?
Graham Potter said “No I’m Graham Potter. I don’t want to compare to anybody else. As I have always said, Chris did a great job to keep this club in the Premier League. He is a vastly experienced coach that has had a lot of time in football. I have the utmost respect for him but our job is to find the balance between attack and defence. To try to find a way to play football that suits the players we have. That is what we try to do in one of the toughest leagues in the world.”
Potter earned much praise in the early part of the campaign as his pleasing style of football saw his Premier League managerial career off to a positive start. But a tough run of results, however, has seen Brighton slip down the table and Albion are without a win in 2020 and are just two points above the relegation zone with nine matches remaining.
Brighton and Hove Albion skipper Lewis Dunk believes there’s more to come from Alexis Mac Allister after his encouraging introduction during the 0-0 draw at Wolves. Mac Allister, 24, made his first appearance for Albion at Molineux Stadium, having cut short his season-long loan deal at Boca Junior and joining Albion on transfer deadline day.
Lewis Dunk said “Hopefully he can give another dimension to us, We need the attacking threats at the moment, he showed some good stuff out there and hopefully he will keep getting fitter, more used to us and create something. From what I have seen in training and from what I have heard from him I have heard good things and seen good things in training. There is a lot to come from him and it will be a big boost for us in these last nine games.
The point at Wolves was all the more crucial for Albion as relegation rivals Bournemouth, Watford, West Ham and Norwich City all lost this weekend. Brighton are two points above the drop with nine matches remaining.
