  • Swindon Town 1 – Manchester City 3 – John Gorman not disheartened despite another loss as Manchester City finally record a win

Niall Quinn, City’s unsettled Irish Striker, was ready to back new Maine Road boss Brian Horton. The Irish striker, who scored in City’s 3-1 win at Swindon – their first win of the season to mark Horton’s debut as manager planned to meet chairman Peter Swales later that week to sort out his future.

Nial Quinn said “What you saw tonight was the best of Manchester City and I’ve had lots of good nights like this with the club. But there are also the bad points and over the years there have been too many of them. The club was crucified after the way Peter Reid was dismissed last week – but so far so good with Brian Horton, I’ve never had anything against him. Perhaps Mr Swales won’t like me saying this but lets hope Brian gets the backing he deserves. I want to see Mr Swales before I go to Ireland with the international team.”

On the other hand, Swindon boss was still optimistic about his team and thought that they played well for the better part of the match but they were naïve to lose the match.

John Gorman said “For 60 minutes we outplayed City and passed them off the park, but once they got the lead we were very naïve and got over excited. I’m sick about but still proud of my lads because they have me everything and their commitment was excellent.”
