Raheem Sterling is still fond of former club Liverpool !!

[hr]

As Raheem Sterling prepares to play against the club who created his professional foundations, Raheem Sterling remembers his roots  and evolution in professional career.

Raheem Sterling said “At first it was hard going back. It was weird at first to see yourself in a different shirt and, against a club that’s done so much for you, it’s also emotional. But now I have matured past that and feel I have had some good games against them. Now I’ve got past that stage. It’s gone, was a little thing, but I’m now fully focused and fully ready. It’s time to go there and produce. I’d say one difference [from when I won the Golden Boy] is just to believe in myself. Also at Liverpool when I was on the ball, I’d say I was always going down the line, then crossing the ball and then doing a little trick. I think I was a bit raw there [at Liverpool] and it’s like anything, it was my first time as a professional and you learn things and you adapt to things. Now it’s trying to do pick those moments on a regular basis where I try to affect the game for my team. Like scoring goals yes.”

Premier League Museum Editor Notes: Sterling joined Liverpool in 2010 and made 129 appearances for the Reds before he left for City for an initial £44 million fee in 2015.Though many Liverpool fans took exception to his departure, it’s clear Sterling still has some affection for his former side. Raheem Sterling admitted he was “buzzing” for  Liverpool in 2019 Champions League final and congratulated his former team mates after their win. It’s unfortunate how moments change after certain life decisions-  At the time when Sterling left Liverpool, it  made sense  but it’s funny how things change. Klopp arrived, Liverpool club got transformed and Sterling would probably prefer to play and be a better fit for the way Liverpool play football now

How Ciarán Clark is buzzing again for Newcastle ?

[hr]

For a player who couldn’t make the Newcastle match-day squad recently, defender Ciarán Clark is joining his country squad with confidence at 100% after inspiring club performances.

30-year-old Irish veteran had only made three Premier League appearances under new boss Steve Bruce. His stock had also fallen for his country. Yet to play for Mick McCarthy, his last outing was a 4-1 defeat to Denmark in the Nations League 14 months ago. Prior to that, his last competitive game was the 5-1 defeat at the hands of the same opposition in 2017. However things are looking much rosier in the garden for the centre-half. He found the net in the 3-2 win over the Hammers and for the first time in his career, scored for successive Premier League games when his tap-in secured the three points in the 2-1 win over Bournemouth.

His manager Steve Bruce said “The one thing you want is competition and Ciarán, who was probably questioning… There were times when I didn’t pick him in the squad, like today – I’m leaving out people like [Javi] Manquillo, who’s done nothing wrong, [Yoshinori] Muto, who’s done nothing wrong. It’s the difficult part of it. All you can say to them is, ‘Take your chance’, and Ciaran is the prime example of it. He’s done remarkably well coming from nowhere. I’m delighted for him.He trains every day, works hard every day, great pro and when you see somebody getting the winner like he did from where he was probably six weeks ago not travelling with us, fair play to him.”

Premier League Museum Editor Notes: Ciarán Clarke joined  Newcastle United ahead of the 2016-17 Championship season after playing over 100 matches for Aston Villa.Clark adds some good depth and versatility as a fullback for Newcastle on the back-line, but he is injury prone and, at times, makes some poor decisions that open the door for the opposition.

What changes would Chris Wilder propose for VAR ?

[hr]

Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder admitted he was sick of VAR after his team became the victims of the latest controversy that has prompted more widespread criticism.

Wilder  had been to a meeting of Premier League managers on VAR ahead of the Spurs game. Chris Wilder said ” One hundred per cent I am sick of VAR. It does seem before and after every game, it’s the major talking point. They are going into that much time, depth and detail. It’s changed the game. Certain aspects of it [are spoiling the game]. You have to go through the process and definitely have a big look at it in the summer. No doubt, it’s going to be here to stay. But there were always going to be these issues and it’s going to have to run its course. The length of that stoppage doesn’t do anyone any good, from managers to players to most importantly the supporters. Was it clear and obvious? No.”

Premier League Museum Editor Notes: We would like to highlight suggestion by Gary Linekar “Any incident that cannot be ruled on by VAR in 30 seconds should not be overturned because it could not be deemed clear and obvious”
