Tuesday’s papers in the UK covered Ex-Manchester United Manager Ron Atkinson’s plan to bring Mark Hughes to Aston Villa, Arsenal’s victory over Crystal Palace thanks to a wonder striker from Ian Wright, latest on Alex Ferguson’s hunt for a new striker and Paul Elliot pursuing legal charges against Dean Saunders and Liverpool over horror tackle that could end his career.

Aston Villa boss Ron Atkinson was keen to bring Mark Hughes from Manchester United to Villa Park to make a dream partnership upfront with Dean Saunders. Ron Atkinson sold Hughes to Barcelona during his time at Old Trafford. He had already spent £2.3 million to price Saunders out of Anfield and wanted to follow suit for Hughes as well. Alex Ferguson also thought that a change was necessary at Old Trafford after his side had only managed to score 35 goals in the previous 35 matches.

Ian Wright grabbed a superb 73rd-minute winner against his former club Crystal Palace as Arsenal moved up to third place in the Premier League table, just a point behind the leaders Blackburn Rovers. Palace had earlier equalized through a goal from Eddie Mcgoldrick, which canceled out an impressive strike from Merson that gave the Gunners a lead.

Norwegian Tore Andre Dahlum had arrived at Old Trafford to begin a two-week trial. Manchester United manager Alex Ferguson was hoping that he could be the answer to his side’s lack of goals. Reportedly Manchester United had up to £3 million to buy a top-quality striker and the United manager had turned to the Scandanavian and Holland as the destination to buy that player.

Dean Saunders and Liverpool were facing legal consequences over a tackle that Paul Elliot of Chelsea claimed wrecked his season. Elliot was stretchered off with cruciate ligament damage at Anfield two months ago after being tackled by Saunders. Elliot’s solicitor had already been touch with colleagues who were involved in Danny Thomas’s case against Gavin Maguire, then of Queens Park Rangers. The difference was that Tottenham defender knew that his career was over when he took action against Maguire, the parties later agreed an out of court settlement.
