Midfielder Lewis Cook believes it is “exciting times” for Cherries after the break in Premier League action had helped key players recover from injury. The England international has returned to training with Eddie Howe’s men following football’s coronavirus shutdown and is vying for a starting place when the Dorset club host Crystal Palace a week on Saturday.

As well feeling sharp himself following lockdown, Cook has also seen the likes of Arnaut Danjuma, Chris Mepham, Lloyd Kelly and David Brooks back in action following their injury lay-offs. And with Cherries’ options now boosted, the former Leeds United man believes the club is in good shape.

Lewis Cook said: “I’d be lying to say that I don’t think we are in a stronger position, where we are now. We have a lot of players back fit and they are looking really good in training. It’s exciting times to have because I think us at full strength, we are a really good team and it will help us for our chances. I feel great. I took this time to try to work on little things, try to keep fit and try to get a bit stronger. It’s been a challenge not having all the resources to maintain my fitness but I’ve had to adapt. I’ve come back and felt sharp, felt fit and I’m looking forward to it.”
