Pep Guardiola praised Bernardo Silva’s workrate for Manchester City in their win against Wolves and said his approach summed up the “solidarity, commitment and friendship” in the Blues squad. Bernardo pressed relentlessly against Wolves and while City needed a late flurry of goals to seal victory, the 4-1 win made it 21 successive wins in all competitions. But Bernardo was influential as well and Guardiola praised his role in a hard-fought win.

Pep Guardiola said: “Another nice performance, [he was] brilliant, Mahrez too, they have a good connection,” the City boss said. Always Bernardo performs well, with desire, with the extra pass.”

Asked about the energy Bernardo continues to show in a demanding season,

Pep Guardiola said: “That’s true, he’s skinny and not tall but so strong, everyone you see, everyone runs, it’s what we like the most, solidarity, commitment, friendship, run for the others and run for you. He wants to recover as quick as possible and defend. When we have the ball they cannot score. Wolves are incredibly well organised to run, drive with the ball and it’s so difficult. With Neto and Adama but we controlled them well except for five minutes.”

Wolves scored with their first shot on the hour mark and that made for a nervy finale for City. While they deserved the win Guardiola believes it will serve as a lesson for their Champions League knockout stages.

Pep Guardiola added: “The players felt it was unfair after what had happened but it’s a good lesson for the knock-out games as good players can punish you. But in the end a really good night for us.”
