Glenn Roeder passes away
Former Newcastle manager and player Glenn Roeder passed away on Sunday afternoon after a long illness, the League Manager’s Association announced. Roeder played as a defender for six years at Newcastle in the 1980s, before returning as a manager in 2006.
LMA chairman Howard Wilkinson said: “A cultured defender as a player, he managed with a studious style and was always generous with his time and ideas. Glenn was such an unassuming, kind gentleman who demonstrated lifelong dedication to the game. Not one to court headlines, his commitment and application to his work at all levels warrants special mention. Football has lost a great servant today and our sincere condolences go to Glenn’s family and friends.”
Bruce’s anxious wait
Newcastle boss Bruce is now waiting on the results of scans for Miguel Almiron, Allan Saint-Maximin and Emil Krafth after the trio picked up injury problems on Saturday night. Speaking after the draw with Wolves,
Steve Bruce said: “We’ll not know until scans tomorrow. We’ll have scans fixed up and see how he is. The way he was at half-time told it all, really. As I’ve said many, many times with Almiron, he’s a wonderful pro and he was in distress with it. Let’s hope it’s not that bad.”
Nuno pays tribute to Dubravka
Wolves boss Nuno Espirito Santo has been full of praise for Martin Dubravka after the Slovak goalkeeper made a fine save to deny the visitors taking all three points late on.
Nuno Espirito Santo said: “That’s what goalkeepers do. “They get compliments sometimes when one player is not so accurate and so clinical but it was good from Dubravka.”
