#PLStories- Graham Potter thinks Liverpool draw was more special than win last season in empty stadium #BHAFC #LFC

Graham Potter Brighton

Graham Potter believes Liverpool’s “knowledgeable supporters” will agree that Brighton deserved their Anfield point on Saturday. Potter felt that his charges were well worth the draw at Anfield and said the home fans will feel the same given how the match went.

Graham Potter said: “I was just so happy with how the team played. We’ve got an incredible respect for Jurgen and Liverpool, what they have achieved. It is a fantastic club, Anfield is an incredible place, so I am just really happy with us showing what we’re about. We’re playing against a side that is on the back of a 5-0 victory (against Manchester United), they are full of confidence, full of belief and we had to dig in, of course. But the Liverpool supporters are very knowledgeable and I think they appreciated our performance in the second half and over the course of the game and I can’t say more than that. Obviously you can take that (win at an empty Anfield last season) away and it makes a difference when there’s 50,000 in here as well. We’re happy with a point, it’s only a point, but it’s still away at Anfield which is really good for us. But I think we’re happier with how the team is progressing. The supporters were fantastic and hopefully they’ve gone home appreciating their team.”

On shutting out Salah for the first time in 11 games,

Graham Potter added: “As I said, you have to play well as a team. You have to defend as a team and I thought Marc Cucurella (at left-back) was excellent against him. He’s a wonderful player, most of them are and Salah is in an incredible moment of form. I thought probably the period where Liverpool really dominated we struggled to get any pressure on them and if you play a high line you commit too many bodies forward and you expose yourself to bigger spaces. These players can rip you apart in a second. So once we adjusted it in the first half we were a bit better I thought and it was a collective effort from the guys, team-wise, defending and covering for each other. It was fantastic.”
