Ayoze Perez will miss out on Leicester City’s Europa League clash at Spartak Moscow through illness. The Spaniard, who set up Jamie Vardy’s goal against Manchester United in an extremely effective substitute appearance, has been left at home after feeling unwell on Monday night, hours before City travelled to the Russian capital. However, there is hope that he will be fit for the weekend’s trip to Brentford.
Brendan Rodgers said: “Ayoze Perez was the only one who hasn’t travelled. He didn’t feel well last night, so we let him go through the night and we saw how he was this morning, and he wasn’t feeling much better. So rather than make him travel, he’s stayed at home. Hopefully after a couple of days rest, he’ll be right for the weekend.”
With no further injury issues, Perez is one of just four City players absent, along with James Justin, Wesley Fofana and Wilfred Ndidi. Jonny Evans, who has had a long-standing foot issue and has been unable to make two straight starts this season, could be in contention to play after reporting no negative reaction following his near-90-minute performance against Manchester United at the weekend.
Brendan Rodgers said: “We’ll do a session this evening with Jonny and we’re hoping he will be fine and will come through that. He’s had no reaction, or no bad reaction, to the weekend, it was just cramp. He was struggling in both legs, but he’s had a couple of days recovery, and we’ll see after this evening’s session.”
Kelechi Iheanacho, who was stopped at the border when City travelled to Poland for their last Europa League game over mismatching documents, has had no such issues and could play against Spartak on Wednesday afternoon.
