Scotland captain and Liverpool fullback Andy Robertson has given his verdict on Scotland’s ‘difficult’ 1-0 win over the Faroe Islands. Lyndon Dykes scored a crucial late World Cup qualifying winner as Scotland ran out 1-0 winners. It had been a struggle for the Scots in Torshavn until the QPR forward, born in Australia to Scottish parents who pledged his allegiance to the dark blue, scored in the 86th minute from a Nathan Patterson cross to take the Scots to within three points of a World Cup play-off spot. And Liverpool full-back Andy Robertson has said the side will have to be ‘a lot better than that’ when they face bottom side Moldova away next month.
Andy Robertson said: “Look when you come to these places and I feel people just expect you to get easy points but, you’ve seen Austria only won 2-0 and they scored late, Denmark scored in 85th-86th minute, 1-0. So we knew it was going to be tough but the confidence they get off winning second balls, beating you to the ball and getting a chance and their fans lifting them. So, it was tough. We had to dig deep. We didn’t play well at all. But like you said, six points at the start of this week was crucial and now we’re, we’re close to what we set out to achieve and that’s important to keep that in mind. The Faroes, coming here is a difficult game. Astroturf pitch, which none of us are really used to, they’re physical, they’re strong, they played their game plan really well, we didn’t play our game plan to exactly how we wanted it. Saturday was really emotional, adrenaline going into the game and how it ended and everything and maybe the lads had a bit of a hangover from that I don’t know. But when games are like that it’s so important to get there in the end, you know, we could easily be standing here 0-0 and it would make November, you know, November is already tough but it would have made that a lot lot harder. So, important to get the three points. Glad we got there in the end, but we’ll need to be a lot better than that going forward.”
