Manchester United midfielder Bruno Fernandes has named Jack Grealish as one of the best players in the Premier League. Fernandes is also in the running for the biggest prize in the Premier League’s end of season awards and mentioned Grealish when asked about the players rivalling him for the division’s top individual accolade.

Bruno Fernandes said “In the Premier League, you have a lot of good players. I think it’s difficult to choose one. For me, being the best player in the Premier League, you have to be the best from since we started to the end, and not coming and start playing in December or January and start doing well in that moment. The ones who were doing well before everyone forgets because those are doing better at this moment. I think to be the best player, you have to be consistent, try to be the best that you can for the longest time you can.”

On Grealish, Bruno Fernandes said: “Grealish, before his injuries, was being really, really good.”

The Portugal international also praised the likes of Man City trio De Bruyne, Ruben Dias and Ilkay Gundogan as well as Liverpool’s Mo Salah. Grealish was the subject of interest from Old Trafford for much of last season before he penned a new contract with Villa on the eve of the current campaign. It’s claimed that United still hold an interest heading into the summer, while City have also been linked.

Grealish’s agent Jonathan Barnett played down those rumours this week and said the 25-year-old could remain a Villa player next season. In an interview with SNTV, Barnett said of Grealish’s future: “The truth is we don’t know (what will happen). There are many clubs (interested) and I wouldn’t put Manchester United at the top of that (list).

Jonathan Barnett said “But he could stay. He could stay as well so it’s a conversation the club, Aston Villa, will have with Jack and ourselves then we’ll see where we go.”

Villa have no desire to cash in on Grealish with owners Nassef Sawiris and Wes Edens keen to build a team around their talisman with the aim of pushing the club back into Europe. Aston Villa skipper Grealish was enjoying another brilliant season both domestically and on the international stage for England before getting injured in February. He has missed Villa’s last 12 games with a shin problem including Villa’s defeat to United on Sunday but still has six goals and 10 assists to his name in the top-flight this season and only Fernandes and Kevin De Bruyne have created more big chances. Grealish was being talked about as a potential Player of the Year contender before his injury having taken his game to new heights.
