Ryan Mason has stated that Daniel Levy and the club need to have a “long, hard think” about the direction Tottenham Hotspur want to go in following a disappointing season. Asked about the kind of job the next Tottenham manager will inherit ahead of next season, Mason emphasised that his main focus is the team getting back on track after their defeat at Elland Road but he claimed that discussions need to take place over the coming months.

Ryan Mason said: “I think the bigger picture and discussions like that probably need to happen over the summer. Our focus, my focus has to be on the next game now and at training we need to prepare. I’m very disappointed we lost a game of football today as I came into this game wanting to win and hoping that we could win the game. That hasn’t happened so that’s disappointing. Our focus has to be on the next week, the next game and then I’m sure those conversations will happen over the summer.”

Despite their struggles over the course of the campaign which culminated in Mourinho losing his job after a dire run of form, Mason has stressed that the incoming boss will have a very good set of players to work with as they look to guide Spurs back up the league standings.

Ryan Mason added: “Absolutely, absolutely there’s some great players. It’s a big squad, it’s a very good squad as well, so there’s definite tools to work with for next season and I’m sure the chairman, the board and the football club will have a long, hard think about the direction the football club wants to go in.”
