Neal Maupay has been told he must handle emotion and disappointment after seeing red at Molineux. The striker is set for a two-game ban after being sent-off for dissent after full-time in the 2-1 defeat to Wolves. Maupay had to be persuaded by players and coaching staff to leave referee Jonathan Moss as he argued in the middle the pitch.

Graham Potter said: “He was annoyed. He thought there was a foul before their first goal on him – and little things. Our goalkeeper got booked (for time-wasting), theirs didn’t when he was taking a long time. It can happen in a game but it is about how you manage those situations and make sure you are there for the next one. Unfortunately Neal wasn’t able to do that and that’s disappointing and we have to take responsibility for that.”

Maupay has a fiercely competitive nature but can at times lose his cool. He appeared to be annoyed by a couple of incidents late on the game, including one where he thought he fouled near the Wolves byline.

Graham Potter added: “It is football so it brings out a lot of emotion and feeling and certainly disappointment when the scoreline has not gone your way. But, at the same time, that is the challenge of elite sport. We have to deal with it, we have to deal with the setback and we have re-group and go again for Saturday.”
