RALPH Hasenhuttl insisted it was “not really funny” to see another Saints red card having to be overturned this season, after Jannik Vestergaard was wrongly dismissed against Leicester last time out. The Danish defender was sent off by referee Robert Jones after 10 minutes at St Mary’s on Friday, having been judged to have denied Jamie Vardy an obvious goalscoring opportunity. But following an FA review, the card and suspension have now been rescinded. Quizzed on Vestergaard’s successful appeal

Ralph Hasenhuttl said: “It’s the second time this season we concede a red card and, although VAR was looking on it, it was appealed. It’s not really funny to be honest when you get 80 minutes playing with one man down. Even the first time when it happened against Manchester United we conceded three goals because we were two men down in the end. In both cases it affected our game massively. I think it’s not to understand how this is possible for me. It seems sometimes they are only looking for getting the red card, not looking at exactly what happens. It’s simply not a good job done to be honest. It’s very difficult to understand and the only reason why it can be like this is if they have not the right people on the right spots for the VAR. Otherwise, he must have seen this was clearly not a goal chance. Everybody sees it one day later, it doesn’t help us in the end! That’s what we have the VAR for. I cannot understand it. It was the second time this season. The second time that after the game they say ‘sorry, it was the wrong decision’. This is not possible.”
