BOSS Ralph Hasenhuttl has reiterated he expects Danny Ings to remain at Saints, despite the striker having just more than a year left on his contract. England international Ings’s current deal expires in the summer of 2022, with an array of clubs having been linked with the frontman this season. But Austrian boss Hasenhuttl insists Ings has “a very good spot to perform” as part of the St Mary’s side.

Ralph Hasenhuttl said: “I think Danny, especially, will stay with us. He knows with all his injuries he has had he has a very good spot to perform and come back, and I think this is important for a player. It’s a risk to go into a final year of a contract with the risk of getting another injury, then things can be gone. It’s something every player has to answer for themselves, and we hope he’ll be with us for longer.”

Ings missed Friday night’s 1-1 draw against Leicester City with a hamstring problem. He has scored 12 times in 31 games for club and country this campaign – and will hope to be part of Gareth Southgate’s England squad for this summer’s European Championship.
