Sheffield United will come up against a familiar face at Molineux when they travel to face Wolves. Conor Coady has gone on to make a name for himself in the colours of tomorrow’s opponents, with a period of form that has also seen him earn international recognition with England.
Conor Coady said: “We had a good Liverpool youth side but I left and went on loan to Sheffield United and, honestly, it was incredible. It was brilliant, absolutely brilliant. I can’t speak highly enough of my time at Sheffield United. The people were fantastic. Nigel was fantastic for me. He’s a real good man and a fantastic manager who helped me kick on and made sure we had a good season. I went there under Weir and it was tough because we were trying to play a different way and it was a tough, tough league. Nigel came in and really changed it, he knew the league and how to play with the players he had. We had so many games and it was brilliant, I loved every minute of it. I enjoy where I’m playing now, but back in those days at United, it was great. It was all out attack and just try and run forward and keep scoring, honestly I loved every minute of it.”
One of his fondest memories is that FA Cup semi-final against Hull City at Wembley. United were 45 minutes away from Europe as they led 2-1 at the break.
Conor Coady added: “We came in at half-time and everyone was silent, and we all just burst out laughing If we’d have got to the final we’d have been in the Europa League and we were in League One. It was mental to even think of that so we just had a laugh to ourselves, and the game was incredible. We gave a great account of ourselves and the club is brilliant, I loved it there.”
Chris Wilder revealed this season that he had approached Wolves and ‘tried to bring him to Bramall Lane’ at the time of Nuno Espirito Santo’s appointment but the new manager was not keen on letting him leave.
