West Ham moved back into fourth just one point behind Leicester City in third place following a nervy 3-2 win over the Foxes at the London Stadium.
David Moyes said “It was a bit of that and a bit of not maintaining possession well enough and not making the right choices when they had the ball, but we dropped away and from a game where we went 3-0 up and looked quite comfortable we actually turned it into a 3-2 win and we should not have got ourselves into that position, and I am disappointed we did. Overall I am thrilled to get the results we have, especially this week they have been big results.
With just seven games to play West Ham are in an excellent position to maintain their push for the top four and challenge for a Champions League spot, but Moyes is continuing to take it “one game at a time”. He did, however, say that the ambition for the remainder of the season is to ensure there is European football at the London Stadium next season.
David Moyes said “We are into the period now where you take one game at a time, this is new for us and new for this club for a long time being up there. It sounds great that people are even considering us that we could be Champions League contenders and I think that in itself is making the league exciting. It is a great time for West Ham supporters as we want to try and do it. We want to try and be in European football of some sort and I think if we do that it would be a great achievement.”
For the third game running David Moyes‘ team went into a 3-0 lead and as with the Arsenal and Wolves games, the Hammers sat back and saw their opponents come back into the game. Unlike against Arsenal, West Ham were able to see the game out, as they did at Molineux for a 3-2 win but not without causing the manager a few late scares by dropping so deep to hang on.With seventh place potentially being enough to ensure European football next season and West Ham currently eight points clear of Everton in eight, albeit, with the Toffees having two games in hand, European football could well be on the horizon for the Hammers.
