Nuno Espirito Santo says he is ‘angry’ with himself after Wolverhampton Wanderers’ defeat to West Ham United. Nuno accepted responsibility for the mistakes in his post-match press conference and refused to lay the blame at any of his players’ doors.
Nuno Espirito Santo said: “I’m angry with myself, I’m angry with the way we deal with those situations. Of course I’m angry. It’s my responsibility. It’s our responsibility, our mistakes and we will work on that. Don’t expect me to come here and judge because I know how hard it is to be on a football pitch. The attitude and the intentions are always good. It’s something we have to work on and try to improve our players in that aspect to find the solutions. Offensively we were OK, with possession of the ball we created and unbalanced them. But the three goals we conceded were all the same and didn’t please me. I’m not pleased at all.”
Wolves’ cause wasn’t helped by the news that key defenders Jonny Castro Otto and Willy Boly were unavailable. Jonny has suffered another injury to his right knee and faces a long time out, while Boly has tested positive for Covid-19 after returning from international duty with the Ivory Coast.
On Jonny, Nuno Espirito Santo added: “It’s tough for us because Jonny is a very important player and because it’s the same injury that will require a lot of time. Now it’s about building his confidence because there’ll be moments of doubt. But we are going to support him and he is going to play for Wolves many, many times.”
A sloppy defensive performance from Wolves allowed West Ham to take a three-goal lead inside 38 minutes at Molineux. Despite goals from Leander Dendoncker and Fabio Silva, West Ham held on to secure a 3-2 win and complete the double over Wolves this season.
