Questions over Harry Kane’s Tottenham future are sure to rumble on throughout the summer transfer window.

A year ago Kane refused to rule out a move away from Spurs during an interview with Jamie Redknapp, although he did say that all the while the club was showing the same ambition he was, he would stay loyal. But after a disappointing season under Jose Mourinho, with the Carabao Cup the only silverware available to win, Kane’s future is up in the air again. And speculation continued when he was asked whether he needed to leave Tottenham to win trophies while he was on international duty with England.

Back then, Harry Kane said  “I think that’s a hard question to answer right now. To be thinking about speculation or rumours would be damaging in terms of my own performance. Look, I try to stay out of that speculation as much as possible. I’m fully focused on doing the job on the pitch from now until the end of the summer and then we’ll see where we go from there.”

Kane has been linked with a move to both Manchester clubs in England, while there is talk that Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain could be interested too. However, one club appears to have dropped out of the race. Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola was asked about links with another striker Erling Haaland during his pre-match press conference ahead of the game with Leicester on Saturday. And he appeared to rule out a move for any striker at all.

Pep Guardiola said “With the economy in world football now, there’s more chance we are not going to sign a striker this summer. With current prices, we are not going to buy any striker. It’s impossible, we can not afford. All clubs struggling financially, us as well.”
