Goalscorer Che Adams admitted his delight after getting off the mark for Scotland.Adams will now head back to Saints ready for Sunday’s Premier League clash against Burnley (noon).

After netting his first international strike,
Che Adams said “It was a great feeling seeing it hit the back of the net. We got the three points and that’s all that matters. The ball just fell right for me. I had a shot and thankfully it went in. I’ve been in that position many times at club level and it’s just about getting that first goal, getting off the mark and getting the confidence. I think it’s been a very positive week. Obviously, it’s not ideal as we could have put more points on the board but we’ve not suffered a loss, so it’s just positivity now. We’re just looking forward to the summer now and we’ll see what it brings. Definitely (the lure of the Euros will spur me on). I just need to get the club level right and the rest will take care of itself.”
Adams’s strike took him to eight goals for club and country this season. Before heading away on international duty, the former Birmingham City frontman had scored in his past three top-flight games with goals coming against Sheffield United, Manchester City and Brighton. Speaking about the Saints star post-match,
Scotland boss Steve Clarke said “I think for a striker it’s always important to get a goal. Che has shown in training, he’s shown in the matches so far that he’s a goal threat. He could have got off the mark before he actually did but, listen, it was a great little turn on the edge of the box and a great strike, so it was good for Che. His strike partner in Lyndon (Dykes) I thought was good – a good combination, they worked well together. It gives us another option going forward. t’s been a good 10 days’ work.We knew we had to finish with a victory and to finish with a comfortable victory – four goals – for a team that can’t score goals it’s nice to score four.”
The Saints striker Che Adams opened his international account as Steve Clarke’s side secured the first win of their 2022 World Cup qualifying campaign, with a convincing 4-0 victory over the Faroe Islands. Adams took a sublime first touch to gather Kieran Tierney’s driven pass forward, before turning on the edge of the box and drilling into the bottom corner. He made it 3-0 after John McGinn’s double – Newcastle’s Ryan Fraser added a fourth with a header at the back post. Adams, who is likely to be part of Clarke’s squad for Euro 2020 this summer, is yet to suffer defeat in a Scotland shirt. After three Group F World Cup qualifying fixtures, Scotland have five points from nine and sit in second place behind flawless Denmark.
