Lukasz Fabianksi let out a roar of anger upon the final whistle against Arsenal on Sunday afternoon. It echoed around the empty London Stadium and left nobody in doubt to his feelings on the result. The Pole had conceded three goals against his former club, none of which were his fault, and was called upon a number of times to ensure the Hammers did not fall to defeat. His annoyance with the result was understandable, after all, West Ham were 3-0 ahead after 32 minutes and cruising. The ‘keeper had barely touched the ball as he watched the Hammers attack in numbers to devastating effect. Despite his audible frustration with the result, the goalkeeper took some positives from the match.
Lukasz Fabianksi said “The season so far has been really good and that we are disappointed with drawing against Arsenal at home shows you how far we’ve come compared with what happened to us last season. We’re not happy with the result. Obviously, we started so well in the first half and really dominated the first 20 to 30 minutes. “
After 32 minutes of West Ham domination, Arsenal began to get some possession of the ball and attack down their right-hand side with all three of the Gunners goals coming from that area of the pitch.
Lukasz Fabianksi said “Maybe we felt confident with being 3-0 up that we weren’t going to get anything against us, but Arsenal really started to pick it up. They started to get the rhythm going and we got punished on a few occasions. We sat back too deep and let them control the game too much.”
The result certainly felt like a defeat for West ham after such a brilliant start with David Moyes confirming after the game that it felt more like two points dropped than one game. Both Moyes and Fabianski looked to take the positives from the game.
David Moyes said “We have come a long way if we are disappointed that we are only drawing against Arsenal.”
Lukasz Fabianksi said “We have improved a lot and we want to keep on pushing really strong to the end of the season, keep performing and getting a good amount of points on the board. We want to finish as high as we can.”
Fabianski is one of a number of players to have starred for West Ham this season and was rightly rewarded with a 12-month extension to his contract, keeping him at the club until June 2022.
