Harry Kane has demanded a response from Tottenham against Aston Villa after a miserable week for the north London side. Goalkeeper Hugo Lloris laid into his teammates after the 3-2 aggregate defeat in a remarkable post-match interview with BT Sport.

The Spurs striker Harry Kane wrote on Twitter: “Time to bounce back tomorrow after a very disappointing week. No words will atone for the last two games, we just have to show our response on the pitch!”

Hugo Lloris said “We are really disappointed, It’s just a disgrace. I hope everybody in the changing room feels responsible for the situation. It’s a disgrace. Now, what can I say about it? Talking about the game of Sunday, it’s not the right moment. The taste of this defeat is more than painful and we are all responsible.”

Manager Jose Mourinho said: “If for any one of them it is not an important match, for me it is, for the respect I have for my own career and for my own job, every match is an important match. I believe for every Tottenham fan at home every match matters and another attitude is needed.”

Spurs’ form had been improving prior to their last two matches with three Premier League wins on the spin boosting their slim chances of a top four finish. But they are just one place above Villa in the table ahead of Sunday’s clash and Kane admits it’s time to turn words into action.

Villa have won one of their last six matches, a 1-0 success against Leeds United at Elland Road at the end of February. Spurs will arrive at Villa Park on the back of a disastrous couple of results against rivals Arsenal and Dinamo Zagreb – with a 3-0 defeat to the Croatian side on Thursday night dumping them out of the Europa League.
