Sheffield United say they will ‘support’ Rhian Brewster and ‘work with authorities to bring the person to justice’ after the Blades striker was the victim of racial abuse on social media. And Sheffield United have now issued a statement in support of the player, who they ‘applaud’ for bringing the ‘disgusting message’ to light.

Sheffield United  club statement said “As a club we applaud Rhian for bringing this disgusting message to light. We will now support him and work with him, the Premier League and all the relevant authorities to ensure the person behind this post is brought to justice.”

The Premier League statements said “The Premier League stands alongside Sheffield United and Rhian Brewster in opposing this abuse and discrimination. There is no room for racism in football or anywhere.”

The 20-year-old shared a message on his Instagram story yesterday that was sent to him by someone with Chelsea player Mason Mount as their profile picture. Brewster then shared the message and said ‘I bet you this kid is about 12’. He is not the first United player to suffer racial abuse online, with David McGoldrick also targeted earlier in the season.
