#PLStories- #BrendanRodgers confident on Leicester City’s new flexible defense #LCFC

Leicester City’s new defensive unit looks set to remain in place after they produced a near-complete shut-out of Sheffield United at the weekend. The City boss said they would be working together in training this week, perhaps ahead of another outing as a trio against Manchester United in the FA Cup on Sunday.

Brendan Rodgers said: “It was very good. All three are quality players. You see the flexibility it gives us, sometimes it’s a three, sometimes it’s a four, and that’s because of their intelligence and their qualities. We kept a clean sheet as a team, which was important. We can defend the box, we had a good presence, if you look at all three centre-halves, and with Wilf in there as well, it allows us to be dominant and physical. I thought the combination was good. We had some time in the week to work and we’ll have more time this week to work. Overall, they connected very well.”

Rodgers’ point regarding the flexibility is shown in the average position map from Sunday’s game. While it was listed as a back three, Fofana played in a more advanced role, perhaps more typical of a right-back.
