Sean Dyche wants his side to be aggressive and play high-tempo football but admitted his players are looking jaded following a hectic fixture schedule.
Sean Dyche said “I want them to be bold, to want to play at the top end of the pitch and be aggressive within it. (The first half) was a soft performance but it wasn’t a bad one. In the second half we had a bit more purpose and created the best chance of the game. It was great play from Woody (Chris Wood) and Vyds (Matej Vydra) and he’s not done a lot wrong, he’s hit it low and hard and it’s a good save.”
The Clarets will get a chance to recharge their batteries after Saturday’s teatime clash at Everton (5.30pm kick off) as they don’t play again until they travel to face Southampton on Saturday, April 3. Meanwhile, Dyche admitted that Nick Pope would be disappointed with the way Aubameyang’s shot had beaten him at the near post despite getting a strong hand to it, but said he had no complaints with the England goalkeeper.
Sean Dyche said “Popey is top level and he will question himself so it doesn’t need me to question him. He’s so honest. He’s top, top level. There’s no two ways about it when at this level, he’ll think he could have got a stronger hand on it.”
The Clarets boss was happy with the way his side responded against Arsenal after getting off to a sluggish start in Saturday’s 1-1 draw at Turf Moor. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang gave the Gunners a sixth-minute lead but a bizarre error by Granit Xhaka gifted Chris Wood the chance to equalise just before the break. It was a much-improved performance after the interval and that is the style of football Dyche is hoping to achieve on a regular basis.
