Kelechi Iheanacho is “coming up trumps” just when Leicester City need him to. The striker scored his fourth goal in seven games as City produced a surprise turnaround at Brighton, earning a 2-1 victory that seemed some way off after a dismal first half.

Brendan Rodgers on Ihenacho said: “He has a bit of everything. He’s come up trumps a few times recently, if you remember at Fulham he scored that important header. In the first half it got away from him too much, he had too many touches and was losing possession, but when he intensified his game, he played quicker and his finish was superb. That’s the level of confidence he’s at. He worked well for the team and his contribution was valuable.”

On the winning goal,

Brendan Rodgers added: “I’m not sure Dan knew it hit him! “We haven’t been good enough from corner. We’ve got to make more first contacts, but thankfully we got one and it paid off. We deserved to win by the end of the second half and that was what mattered. There were a lot of changes and a lot of attacking players out, but we don’t want to use that as an excuse. I’m delighted for the team, it a very good win against a good side.

Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers greets Ricardo Pereira after the final whistle A City win seemed a long way off in the first half, when Adam Lallana scored after 10 minutes and Brighton routinely sliced through the visitors’ midfield and defence.

Brendan Rodgers said: “We were deservingly behind. In the second half, we adjusted the mentality, we were in contention, there was tempo to the running. Everything was how we would usually play. By the end we looked like a very good side. I’m delighted for the team. It’s a very good win.”
