Lewis Dunk says he could not understand an “embarrassing” decision to disallow his goal at West Brom. Dunk scored and then saw a retake ordered. Mason appeared to blow his whistle for the kick to be taken – and then blow again as the ball was en route to the net. Dunk can be seen on replays saying something to Mason just before the first whistle was blown.

Speaking after the game, he suggested Mason should be made to explain his decision.

Lewis Dunk said: “Who knows? It’s embarrassing. I’ve got to come here and speak about it in front of the camera. Why doesn’t he speak about it? Why doesn’t he come here and say what he thought because I know what he said. I’ve got to come here and speak about it in front of camera, why doesn’t he speak about it? Why doesn’t he come here and say what he thought? I know what he said. I said, ‘Can I take the free-kick’. He said, ‘Yes’. I took it. I scored. He gave the goal and then massive protests from them, he changed his mind.”

Dunk said he was unable to talk to Mason at the time or during the interval. Asked why the second whistle was blown,

Lewis Dunk replied: “I still don’t know. All I know is I was told I could take the free-kick so I took it, scored and he changed his mind.”
