Ole Gunnar Solskjaer accused the Video Assistant Referee Jon Moss of ‘sleeping’ during the second-half of Manchester United’s draw with West Brom.
OleGunnarSolskjaer said: “We all want consistency and a fair game and there’s human error we all expect from our game. That’s what happens but the penalty we could have had today – it’s a clear foul – if you only look at the clash between centre-back and Harry, it’s a foul. But I see Harry being in an offside position, so someone must have been asleep in that VAR office, Stockley Park or wherever they are. Someone needs to brew some coffee. It could’ve easily been avoided by saying he’s offside, let’s move on.”
Solskjaer also suggested Maguire is being unfairly penalised after he was denied a goal in United’s 1-0 win at Burnley last month. Maguire felt Mbaye Diagne’s opener for West Brom was a foul on Victor Lindelof and Solskjaer suggested if Diagne’s goal was allowed to stand then Maguire’s should have counted at Turf Moor.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said: “It’s more of a foul than what Harry gave away to Burnley, to put it that way. When that goal is taken away from us, if there’s any consistency at all, this is a foul as well. Then again, being a striker as I was, it would be harsh to lose a goal like this, so both of them should have stood, for me. I’ve not really looked at it, just saw it live, haven’t looked at it that closely. But the consistency is what we need and definitely more of a foul than what Harry did against the Burnley kid.”
United have taken 10 points from their last 21 in the Premier League following their 1-1 draw at The Hawthorns and Manchester City are seven points clear at the summit with a game in hand. United conceded first for the eighth time in the league this term but failed to convert it into a win.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer added: “No one will give it away this early. It’s so unpredictable, anything can happen, of course. We’re not going to settle for second, of course we’re not. It’s disappointing, of course, we’ve come away with two points less than we wanted to. The start was difficult, they put us under pressure, as you expect when they get the kick-off, and we couldn’t clear our lines. But we had 90 minutes plus to get two goals. I would rather concede in first than 92nd minute, we just couldn’t get the chances.”
