Ralph Hasenhuttl admitted Saints quickly had to find the “reset button” to arrest their slump in Premier League results. The St Mary’s side were beaten for the fifth consecutive Premier League game after succumbing to a 3-2 defeat to Newcastle at St James’ Park. A double from Miguel Almiron as well as Joe Willock’s strike sent the south coast side packing with nothing to show for their efforts – despite goals from Takumi Minamino and James Ward-Prowse. Asked about his team’s current five-game losing run in the league,

Ralph Hasenhuttl said: “It’s tough, we have two cup games in this time and this is the problem – you take this out and then you see this defect we have. The last points we took was against Liverpool at home. Since then we didn’t win anymore and this is what I said to my players. We have to find quickly the reset button to show we can do it much better. This is what we will have to do. I didn’t have the feeling that they have to get told what is important. I had the feeling that everybody wanted to show up, show a reaction today. When you see it, especially, the first two goals, how they happened, it is just simply too easy. At the moment the problem is that we cannot train anything, we cannot work on any issues we have in our game, since we have three games over every week. It is for me not a chance to train or chance something or create new things. Then we have to do it in the games and some moments we see it works well, some moments it’s not very committed or well organised. It’s a tough moment for everybody and we have to find a way out.”
