Chris Wilder says Sheffield United’s defeat to Tottenham yesterday was self inflicted. The Blades boss made reference to both the manner of the goals conceded and the timing as United once again shot themselves in the foot by gifting the visitors all three points. Here’s every word he had to say after another Sheffield United defeat leaves them 11 points from safety.

Chris Wilder said “Just the timing and the manner of the goals all afternoon. After three minutes, the loss of possession high up the pitch and a goal against from a set play. Then the timing of the second and the position that we lost it. Fabulous finish. We get ourselves back into the game, a great goal from our point of view. There was a belief that if we got that goal after half-time it was game on but to then lose possession in the manner that we did and a brilliant finish. I have to say we then huffed and puffed and tried to change it, tried to move players around a little bit, but there was a loss of energy from our players. One of the things you do look at is the incredible conditioning of these Premier League players, who can go Saturday, Tuesday. Do you freshen it up? But we didn’t have that ability to freshen it up with the bodies on the bench, or do you stick with the same team that looked pretty tired today? We have squeezed everything out of these players and a few of them looked very leggy and tired late on and it was a comfortable last 10-15 minutes for them.”
