#PremierLeagueStories – #ChrisWilder says he would consider stepping down as manager if that was the right thing for the club #SHUFC

Chris Wilder

Chris Wilder says he will only leave Sheffield United if he believes it will be the right thing for the club. A 3-2 defeat at home to Manchester United last night leaves the Blades firmly rooted to the bottom of the Premier League table with one point from 13 games. It is the worst-ever start by any club to a top-flight season, with Wilder’s side now nine points from safety as the season enters the busy and often crucial festive period. The Blades are off to Brighton next for a Sunday afternoon clash and then host Everton on Boxing Day before a trip to Burnley on December 29 rounds off a difficult year. Wilder still retains the backing of the club but given his side’s precarious position, was asked at his weekly press call if he would consider stepping aside.

Chris Wilder said “I’d only do that if I thought it was the right thing for Sheffield United Football Club. That’s the only time I would do that, The club means too much to me for it to be about me, it’s about what’s best for the football club. I’m working away. As you saw last night there’s still plenty of spirit in this group. If you make mistakes and don’t take opportunities you get punished. But only if it’s best for the football club. That’s what I feel.”
