Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has insisted the penalty that gave Sheffield United the lead at Anfield on Saturday should not have been awarded. The visitors netted from a penalty – awarded via VAR – in the early stages of the clash but the Reds roared back to secure a hard-fought 2-1 victory.
Jurgen Klopp said “No foul, It’s now six games into the season and in three of them we have been on the wrong end of these kind of decisions. It’s not that we want to have any advantage, we just don’t want to have any disadvantage. That’s the situation now. We did very well at the start of the game, but the penalty we conceded gave Sheffield a proper boost. Until then they couldn’t really get at us, to be honest. Then we lost a bit of patience, we didn’t do exactly what we wanted to do. We scored a goal in our best attack when the formation was in its best place. If he stays fit (Jota) , he’s 23, so the future is bright. We will need his quality and I am really happy that he settled so well. He’s a good player, that is why we signed him. I was together with my coaches after the game and I said he is such a likeable person that it is so easy to like him and that makes it easier. The player himself is quick, he has the physicality, strong, good in the air, good on the ground, so he has a lot of good things and quality that we need so that helps a lot. He’s still adapting, so a lot of things that we do in the moment are not natural to him but that is only because it is different. But a lot of things that he did for Wolves are exactly what we wanted him to do so, yes that he is that close already is just a sign of what a good player he is.”
